Unless you're just about to start his career, you're almost certainly familiar with the "job description" that consists of one or more pages of state job title and a dozen or more of its responsibilities.

So, the first three or four listed obligations will be paramount. But the next 10 or 15 will be mostly "filler" items intended to sound impressive and important, while remaining short of specificity.

(That way, you will not be able to point to your job description to the specific tasks that do not want to do, or seek promotion and a raise as a reward for the "new accountability" to your manager at the end trying to add to your jobs.)

But what is more interesting about the job description is what is not in them. No matter what they do, there are several important (but unstated) responsibility to make the difference between just getting by and getting promoted.

Regardless of your job, your # 1 responsibility is to "Let your boss's job easier."

The same dynamic applies to the corporate ladder. Your boss is the # 1 job is to and or her boss's job easier. And so on ... to the top. It seems simple, but most employees do not actually practice this when you are at work. So, let's look more closely to make this concept work for you.

When your boss gives you work to do, to be called "delegation". It makes your boss's job easier because it is necessary to do his (or her) desk so that it moves at your desk instead.

However, most employee sabotage their chances for advancement up sending the work in the opposite direction, the right to return to their boss. This is called "delegating up".

Then sit down with your boss, give short summary of the problem - and your proposed solution - and then ask your boss if he or she would prefer another solution.

Nine out of ten times, your solution will be good and your boss will tell you to proceed accordingly. The tenth time, your boss will be instructed to wear it in another way and give you an alternative solution.

This means that over time, this problem solving approach will reduce the upward delegation by 90 percent, while still keeping your boss in the loop in your area businesses. And this is something that your boss will notice - and appreciate - no matter what their job
